HMAS Moreton was a shore station located in Brisbane. Arthur "Shorty" Waddell was sent to the Royal Australian Navy "Naval Station No. 4" at Bribie Island as part of the Moreton Bay Harbour Defences. He enlisted in the RN on 14 August 1940 and served on HM ships Royal Arthur, Drake, Albatross and lastly Repulse until its sinking on 10 Dec 1941. He was then on loan to the RAN from the RN from 1 May 1942. He was at the Bribie Island station from 1 October 1942 to 21 April 1943. After this he was with HMA ships Lonsdale, Madang, Gilolo, Moreton and retired on 11 March 1946. Shorty was short (5'1") - hence the name - and he married a girl (Theresa) from Melbourne..
