My Father Patrick. F. O'Shea, Leading Seaman D/JX 154025, was on HMS Repulse when she was sunk, he slid down the side before she went down. He was rescued by a destroyer after swimming around in the 'oggin for several hours, and taken to Singapore.
He was captured when he and others were making for Australia in a tug in the area of the Bangka Straights, by the Japanese Cruiser Ashagari. He was taken back to Singapore where he remained a POW until Japan surrendered.
He was so pleased that this site existed and read the memories of others with great interest. Sadly he died, peacefully on Christmas Eve 2005, Aged 83.
