of medals on sale on Ebay's online auction site in November 2005:
To Lt. Col. A. F. Binney, Royal Marine Artillery: 1914-15 Star (Lt.Col., R.M.), British War and Victory Medals (Lt.Col. R.M.A.).
VERY RARE : the Royal Marine Artillery was a comparatively small unit and groups to officers of this rank are seldom seen.
These are the only medals he received for 32 years' service.
Condition VF+/NEF with some staining to Victory Medal. Original (tattered) ribbons.
With copy of service record and some family research - but much remains to be done.
Born 1869, son of Rev. D. B. Binney.
Commissioned RMA 1887; served continuously to 19th October 1919.
With papers showing all ship and shore service - e.g. Shannon, Empress of India, Revenge, Trafalgar, Repulse etc., etc;
Adjutant of the Argyll and Bute Artillery Vols., 1902 - 1905.
During WW1 served HMS Shannon, 1914 - 1916 then with RMA Division.
Promoted to Major in 1910 and Lieut. Colonel 1915.
