Frederick Charles MORTON was born Dec 10, 1906 in Birkenhead. He was my great uncle and has been the pivotal character in my family tree researches. 

HMS Prince Of Wales sank on his 35th birthday - and he survived. But the family story is that he allegedly went AWOL after being picked up by a local fishing boat before eventually making it back to friendly lines. At which point he was allegedly Court Marshalled. 

Whether true or not, he certainly appeared to be a character.
