of the above news clipping for
John W. Holmes: Able Seaman John W. Holmes, aged 21, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Albert Holmes, of 22, Donisthorpe Street, West Bowling. Also, Able Seaman Herman Barraclough. They joined the Navy together just over 12 months ago and were posted, after training, to HMS Prince of Wales, taking part in the action against Bismark, and witnessing the historic meeting between Mr Churchill and President Roosevelt. Holmes was educated at St. Josephs Roman Catholic School.
