I recently discovered that one of my relatives was a shipmate on H M S Prince
of Wales. His name was Clifford Elsmore. According to some old newspaper clippings he was a CPO LTO L/P. After the sinking he was captured by the Japanese and later gave evidence at the war crimes trails of 1942. He returned to England in 1946 and was hospitalised near Bristol for three years suffering from war injuries. Clifford was born on 30th January 1919 and died January 2002 He married Marjorie J. Dalrymple in March 1940, in Lichfield. He remarried ten years later to Violet Stewart in June 1950, in Birmingham. They had no children. (due to war injuries) They spent their married life in Birmingham. Clifford died in January 2002 and Violet died a few months later. Kindest Regards Margaret Sheridan. |
