father Chief Petty Officer A. Wood, served on board HMS Express between
1937 and 1940.
I myself was Christened on HMS Express in 1937.
HMS Express, as you may be aware, was transferred to the Royal Canadian
Navy in 1943 as HMCS Gatineau, but still as H61. She was paid off from the Royal Canadian Navy in 1946 and sunk as part of a
breakwater at Royston, Vancouver Island, in about 1948.
I have two photographs of her, one as Express entering Portsmouth
Harbour (undated, but my father told be he was at the wheel at the time, so it would be between 1937 and 1940), the other, as Gatineau,
taken possibly at Halifax, Nova Scotia, in late 1944, as she's in dry
dock and had a major refit at that time.
Hoping you can help, and thanking you,
contact Andy (webmaster) with any information.
