My
father served on board HMS Dorsetshire. He was aboard at the time of the sinking and was a
survivor.
His name was William Cambridge, he joined the R.N. in 1922 as a boy and was demobbed in Oct
1945. He had qualified in gunnery to what degree I don't know.
Bert Gollup told me he thought my father was a C.P.O. Writer, his action station was in the
gunnery director.
He served on the Dorsetshire from Aug 1937 until the sinking in1942.
There is a photo of him on the Dorsetshire Association web page "crew" he is the
coxswain when they won the Yokoham Bowl in 1939.
He died in 1983 just short of his 80th birthday.
He was one of the founder members of the Dorsetshire Ass in 1967.
He died in 1980.
Kind Regards
John Cambridge (son)
